About the game

A cozy cat café built for small moments.

MewMallow: Idle Cat Cafe is an independent HTML5 browser game centered on cat collecting, café decoration, friendship progression, and short mini games.

Why MewMallow exists

The project started from a simple idea: a cat café game should feel pleasant even when you only have a few minutes. Instead of asking players to manage a long list of systems, MewMallow keeps the core loop easy to understand. Café service happens automatically during active play, cats can be swapped into the home scene, and progression is split into small goals such as a new café level, a newly collected cat, a friendship heart, or a better mini-game score.

The word “Idle” is part of the title because the café itself handles service automatically while the game is open. MewMallow does not currently use offline idle income. This is intentional: progress is meant to come from the time you actually spend with the game rather than from leaving it closed for long periods.

Collection without stat pressure

MewMallow contains 60 cats. Some are inspired by real cat appearances, while others are fantasy designs such as Sakura Cat, Galaxy Cat, Forest Spirit Cat, and Rainbow Mythic Cat. Cats do not have gameplay power differences. A Common cat is not “worse” to use in the café than a Legendary cat. Rarity is part of the collecting experience, not a requirement for winning.

Each owned cat can be renamed. Friendship is also stored per cat, so a player can choose a favorite and gradually unlock profile presentation rewards for that specific cat. The goal is to make attachment and personalization more important than optimization.

Decoration and cosmetics

The café has two furniture positions and changeable backgrounds. Dress-up items such as hats and collars can be applied to cats. Standard items are earned or purchased with in-game currency. A separate Unicorn Dream Bundle provides five premium cosmetic items. Premium items do not increase café income, mini-game scores, gacha odds, or friendship speed.

Short mini games

Pâtisserie MEW is a 4×4 merge puzzle where matching sweets combine into higher-level desserts. MEW STACK is a one-tap stacking game where the challenge comes from aligning moving blocks and keeping the tower stable. Both are designed to be understandable quickly and playable in short sessions on desktop or mobile browsers.

Where the game runs

The current public test build runs in a web browser through itch.io. The layout is designed around a 1600×900 reference canvas and scales for desktop and mobile screens. Save data for normal game progress is stored locally in the browser. Premium purchase entitlement uses a separate server-side validation flow so that a paid cosmetic bundle can be restored in another browser using a restore code.

Current development status: MewMallow is actively being refined. The playable build already includes the core café, cat collection, friendship, shop, gacha, two mini games, tutorial, and premium-bundle purchase flow. Development updates are documented on the Devlog.

Independent development

MewMallow is developed as a small independent project. Art direction, progression rules, UI behavior, tutorial flow, monetization boundaries, and marketing experiments are being iterated together rather than treated as separate products. The aim is a game that is understandable on first launch, visually consistent, and respectful of the player’s time.
